Dear Parents/Guardians,
Can Christmas truly be just around the corner? Life is
busy around our halls as they are, I am sure, around your
homes. Here are just a few reminders from our family to
yours:
- TONIGHT: “Reading with the Principal” begins at 6:00
P.M. in the Literacy Center. I have some Christmas
stories and a few Christmas cookies ready to go so
please take time to come by. Reminder the PTG meeting at
6:30 P.M. has been cancelled as our guest speaker
cancelled last week but we will have something planned
for February.
- The Christmas Concert is next Wednesday evening
beginning at 6:30 P.M. Students should report to school
at 6:00 P.M. and go directly to their classrooms. All
students should be in dress code for the concert.
PreSchool and PreK parents please note the following:
Your children will be brought back to the classrooms
right after their performance. You may pick them up in
the classroom so please do not come to the front of the
gym when they are done. Thank you for your cooperation.
- Your Yankee Candle orders will be ready for pick up
on Wednesday from 3:00 P.M.until 6:15 P.M….PRIOR TO THE
CHRISTMAS CONCERT. If you do not pick up your order at
this time, please contact the main office on Thursday
morning to make arrangements for pick up.
- Reminder: RCS Advent Project. All items need to be
sent to school by Wednesday, December 19th. Please check
the letter that you received regarding sizes and
specific grade donations or visit our web site link at :
- Finally, I am looking for one or two parent
volunteers that would be willing to commit from 10:00
A.M. – 2:00 P.M. daily to supervise our Paraclete Room.
Mrs. Engle is looking to dedicate more time to
elementary classes on a regular basis so having a
responsible adult in the Paraclete Room at these times
would help her to accomplish this. Please let me know if
you are ready, willing and able!
Peace and all good things,

Finally….
Tickets for
the 2008 400 club are on sale now. Last year we were able to
award over $10,000 in academic scholarships because of this
effort. $50.00 will enter your name in a drawing that will
begin on January 8th, 2008 and run until November 3rd, 2008.
A ticket is drawn every Monday for 44 weeks. The prize
awarded for 40 weeks is $50.00. Then the prize increases

were in Mrs. Rizzo's first grade class last year. This
"shareholder" ticket will split the $1000 prize.
Congratulations!
Interested in
becoming a "shareholder" in your child's grade? Contact your
room parent or CLASS ADVISOR about becoming a shareholder.
Tickets can be purchased in the Main Office from Mrs.
Millhouse, or by calling Madeline Mills at 336-6190 ext.

The tickets
make great birthday, anniversary and Christmas presents. The

FROM MRS. TAN – ART ROOM: It has come to my attention that
some parents are concerned with the art supply lists for
their child's art classes. I know that starting in grade 4,
and in the 7-12 grades, the art supplies investment is
substantial. I DO tell the students that their supplies are
meant to be used for several years, not just one year. If
the students would take home their supplies at the end of
each year and store them at home until Sept. then a few new
supplies might need to be bought again, such as pencils, but
the majority of their supplies would still be good. I know
that money is tight, and I want to let you know that Mrs.
Sanborn and I spend hundreds of dollars of our own personal
money on art supplies for the art classes every year,
because we are committed to giving your children the best
possible art program we are able to provide! If anyone is
unable to purchase art supplies for your child due to
financial circumstances, please let us know and we will do
everything in our power to make sure your child has the
supplies they need. Thank you!
Enjoy the remainder of your week!
Peace and all good things,

Dear Rome Catholic Parents:
Welcome to autumn! October
promises to be a busy month (School Pictures NEXT WEEK) so
here are some points for you to consider heading into the
month…
-
Elementary Parents: We
have been having a communication problem that I think
you can help us solve. This year, much more than other
years, many of you have been calling to change your
child’s arrangements for after school. Beginning today,
we ask that you CALL ONLY THE MAIN OFFICE for these
changes NOT YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER /VOICE MAILBOX. Second,
these changes to dismissal must be made by 1:00pm
otherwise we can’t guarantee that your child will
receive the message in time. Please adhere to this
beginning today.
-
A reminder to all
parents that Monday is Columbus Day (no classes) and
this date marks a change to the dress code. Students in
grades 7-12 are most affected by this but all parents
should take note of the dress code changes stated in the
handbook.
-
School Picture Days are
as follows: October 10th – Grades PS-5. October 11th
Grades 6-12 and 3 year old Pre School. Make Up Day is
October 12th. Students in the Elementary School may
DRESS UP for picture day. They need not be in uniform.

following documents need to be turned into the main office:
-
All Emergency Contact
Forms (yellow) for all families. Without these forms we
can’t be in touch with parents in an emergency situation
so please make this a priority before the end of this
week.
-
Families in grades 7-12
must turn in the “Handbook Acknowledgments” to their
homeroom teachers. These signed documents confirm that
you have read and agree to follow the contents of the
handbook.
Please note the following
date change off of the school calendar which was mailed to
you:
The Staff
In-Service Day will take place on October 29th NOT October
22nd.
No classes will be held on this day. Please make a note of
this date change.

DATE
TIME
Back to School Night
9/26/07 6:30pm
Parents come “back to school” for the evening.
Meet your child’s teachers and go through your child’s daily
schedule.
Read With The Principal
10/10/07 6:00pm
Especially for our younger elementary school students, I
will be
reading to our kids and even feeding them some pizza!
PTG Meeting
10/10/07 6:30pm
Our first PTG meeting of the year. Come and sign up to
volunteer
at the many events sponsored by the PTG. A Principal’s
Report will
be given with special emphasis on where we stand with
Project 410.
Finally, after gathering input from parents, staff and
representatives from the Diocese, I have revisited the
policy stated last week about chaperones. Going forward this
is how we will proceed.
-
At the October 10th PTG
Meeting I will lay out the expectations for chaperoning
field trips. Anyone wishing to chaperone a trip will be
required to be at this meeting to hear what we expect of
our chaperones. This is only for parents in Grades 1-12.
Pre School, Pre K, and K parents will be prepared by the
teachers as needed.
-
At this meeting we will
also distribute a “Chaperone Policies Form” that
restates what has been presented and we will ask folks
to sign on as a commitment.
-
Any parent (PS – 12)
wishing to chaperone field trips, volunteer at school on
a regular basis, or help out with students in any way is
required by the Diocese to attend the VIRTUS Training
mandated by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.
The next training in this area takes place Oct. 1st in
Oneida at 6:00pm. We will also be holding a training
here at RCS on October 24th at 6:00pm. I encourage you
to visit
www.syrdio.org.
to register for these training sessions. Our training
session was just set up so registration on the web may
not be up right away.
-
Additionally, at Back
To School Night next week I will be taking sign ups for
“School Helpers”. Many of you have asked how you can
help out in the building on a regular basis in places
such as the cafeteria, Literacy Center, etc. As a result
we will place a sign up sheet out for each of the
specific areas that are needed and will encourage
parents to sign up as needed. Again, VIRTUS Training
will be required by the Diocese of Syracuse.
It is my sincere hope that
this change in policy will allow parents to participate more
actively in their child’s educational experience here at RCS.
It our desire to encourage your involvement while still
being attentive to the needs of the Diocese and the world in
which we now live.
Enjoy your week!
Peace and all good things,
Christopher Mominey |
