Service Projects

In keeping with the mission of Rome Catholic School, students will be required to complete service projects and/or hours during the 2008 – 2009 school year as part of their Religion grade. Grades PK – 4 will complete service projects in house where as grades 5 – 12 will complete service hours. They are as follows:

  • Grades PK – 2   will complete 3 service projects per year

  • Grades 3 – 4   will complete 5 service projects per year.

  • Grades 5 –  6   will complete 10 service hours per year.

  • Grades 7 –  8   will complete 15 service hours per year.

  • Grades 9 – 10   will complete 20 service hours per year.

  • Grades 11 – 12   will complete 25 service hours per year.

Service hours may be completed out in the community or at the student’s church. Things like altar serving, lectoring, Eucharistic ministering, assisting at food pantries, soup kitchens, nursing homes, hospitals, service within the school, etc. If student is in doubt about what to do their teachers or staff may provide ideas.

The purpose is to teacher our children the importance of giving to others. The lessons learned from service are valuable in the formation of our students and sets the tone for our Catholic identity throughout the Rome community.


In support of a "Medical Mission" to needy children in Nicaragua, certain items are needed: Baby Shampoo, Peanut Butter, Sippy Cups, Can openers, Batteries AA & AAA, Deodorant, Ant & Fly Traps, Smoke Detectors, Clothes for 4,5,& 6 year olds, Baby bath soap, diapers sizes 3 &4.
