Working Papers
Working Papers
An employment certificate or permit is required for minors under 18 before they may begin work in New York State.
The working paper application may be picked up in the Nurse’s Office. The top portion (Part A – Parental Consent) must be filled out being sure to include the student’s social security number and parent signature. Without all the proper information, a working card cannot and will not be issued.
If you are applying for a newspaper carrier permit, please pick up appropriate permit at RFA or the newspaper office. A health physical is not required to be a paper carrier and the permit can be issued directly from RFA.
If applying for a general employment card, take the completed form to the nurse, she will then instruct you as to when you can expect to pick the paperwork back up. A physical examination is required within the last year. Please note that sports physicals count for this purpose. If the student did not have a school or sports physical within that time frame, the school nurse can call the school doctor’s office and request an appointment for a physical. Parent will be responsible to take student to doctor at the given time.
Once the paperwork has been completed by the nurse, it must be sent or brought to the RFA Guidance Office. When the paperwork has been processed, you will receive a phone call letting you know you may pick up your employment card at RFA. The student must pick it up, as he/she will need to sign in three places before the permit is given.
Please note RFA hours during the school year are from 7 am to 4 pm. RFA summer hours are from 7 am to 3 pm.
Please be aware that the nurse does not keep normal school hours over the summer; messages are checked once a week. If you think you may be seeking employment over the summer, all students are encouraged to request working papers prior to the end of the school year to expedite this process.
